We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Volunteer Project Manager to join the Public Participation Team.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for someone who is passionate about involving volunteers in our NHS hospital services. The focus of this project is to expand the existing SaTH volunteering services to support the Trust’s discharge services to:

  • Recruit volunteers to support SaTH’s discharge planning processes to speed up the safe discharge of patients from hospital to their home
  • Work closely with the Trust’s Clinical Site and Discharge teams
  • Develop processes for volunteers to telephone patients following their discharge to identify and support any additional support needs that may arise in the first few days being back at home
  • Work with the local community and voluntary sector for any ongoing support identified during the project to reduce the risk of the patient being readmitted to hospital.
  • Produce weekly update report on progress
  • Where NHS transport is not available have volunteers and transport available (using an NHS pool car) to transport suitable patients and to ensure the patient has support from the volunteer to settle in when arriving back at home
  • Work with Helpforce to create evaluation measures and outcome reports and identify any key stakeholders
Main duties of the job
  • Developing and implementing the Trust’s Volunteer Discharge Project plan, which sets out measurable milestones and specific validation points to guarantee and monitor successful implementation.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers within the Volunteer Discharge Project and also provide support within the wider volunteer schemes provided by the Trust
  • Develop and deliver induction and ongoing training programmes to support volunteers to carry out their roles and to ensure their safety.
  • Provide ongoing support and advice to volunteers and to staff who are responsible for managing volunteers within their area.
  • Effective communication and influence on staff to implement and engage with the Volunteer Discharge Project within their ward/department.
  • Provide regular report updates on the Volunteer project to the Trust and Helpforce as required to meet the criteria of the grant.
  • Maintaining and ensuring the volunteers’ Better Impact database is fully utilised and developed.
  • To engage with local organisations and communities to promote the Volunteer Discharge Project to those highlighted within the project plan

The post holder will be part of the Public Participation Department, which includes Community Engagement, SaTH Charity and Volunteers. Within this role you will be part of a small volunteer team, as well as providing support to over 300 volunteers within the Trust.

The Public Participation Team is based at William Farr House, Shrewsbury.

  • Educated to Degree level, or equivalent relevant experience

Experience

  • Experience of developing Job Descriptions, interviewing, and appointing large numbers of employees/volunteers
  • Excellent Project Management Experience – delivering projects to scope, on time and within budget.
  • Experience of volunteer recruitment and management
  • Experience of NHS volunteer management

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of bespoke software packages/CMS to manage and engage with volunteers
  • Good knowledge of the legislation relating to the appointment of and on- boarding of Volunteers.
  • Knowledge and techniques used to involve and engage people
