This division of the organisation has been a specialist in high voltage air break switch disconnectors (ABSD’s) for almost fifty years. As preferred supplier to electricity distribution network operators, oil and gas producers and rail electrification companies across the world, we have built a reputation for outstanding product design and manufacturing quality through a comprehensive range of equipment which delivers robust and reliable operation over decades of service.
We are currently seeking a Toolmaker to join our team where they will work closely with both electrical and mechanical engineers.The role will be primarily based at our manufacturing facility in Bridgend.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain existing power press tools, including disassembly, re-sharpening, and punch replacement.
- Manufacture replacement parts for repairing existing press tools.
- Design and fabricate power press and bending tools as required.
- Utilize an oven for hardening materials used in jig and tool manufacturing.
- Create and repair all types of jigs as needed for production.
- Operate a variety of machinery to complete the above tasks, including:
- Lathes
- Millers
- Surface grinders
- Ovens
- Pillar drills
- Saws
- Coordinate with external tool-making companies as necessary.
Key qualities:
- Acts responsibly, ensuring their own health, safety, and environmental practices while considering the impact on colleagues, visitors, and customers.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Practical knowledge of power presses and hydraulic benders.
- Adequate technical skills to operate various machinery effectively.
- Capable of manufacturing tools, parts, and jigs, taking ownership of job completion.
- Ability to carry out small production batches as needed using tool room machinery.
- Willingness to coach an apprentice during their training.
Experience and Education:
- Completed apprenticeship or equivalent experience with a minimum of 2 years in a tool-making role.
- (CNC training is not required.)
Competencies for Role:
- Proficient in using various hand tools essential to tool making.
- Skilled in sharpening all necessary tools for manufacturing tasks.
- Strong numerical skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of materials used in the manufacturing process.
- Ability to troubleshoot and fault-find effectively.
- Experience in abrasive wheels
