We are looking for a Research Administrator to provide high quality administrative support to CRF senior staff, and an exceptional reception service to patients, families and others visiting the CRF.

The post holder will have previous experience in a public facing role, and will give visitors a warm welcome to the department and a positive impression of the CRF.

They will be flexible, and have excellent organisational and prioritisation skills to deal with conflicting demands, and a sometimes sporadic workload.

The role is predominantly based at Birmingham Children's Hospital, but travel to Birmingham Women's Hospital may also be required.

Main duties of the job

To provide a reception service in person and by telephone with patients, families, professionals and external agencies

To take a lead role in booking patient appointments for research study visits

To provide secretarial and administrative support to CRF senior staff

Support research team with preparing study information packs and sending to patients

Validate patient appointment data monthly with the Senior Management Support Officer to ensure that patient activity data is accurately recorded

To manage and organise the scheduling meetings and coordinating room bookings

To be responsible for the taking of minutes of meetings, and production of minutes for distribution to staff

To arrange requests with Estates for repairs to ward/equipment and general upkeep of CRF

Support with HR related duties such as staff record keeping and preparation of induction folders

Display flexibility to meet the needs of the facility and to perform any other tasks or duties that are commensurate with the role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 administration or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • General education with GCSE qualifications, preferably in English Language, Computing/IT, Maths, Science
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills

Knowledge and Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous admin and clerical experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Previous experience in a public facing role
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of NHS systems or databases
  • Previous experience of working with children and clinical patients (does not include clinical skills)
  • Previous experience in an NHS setting

Our current Mental Health Services division may be transferring the provision of its services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position within Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to BSMHFT.
