Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Clinical Health Care Support Worker to join our kind and compassionate team on Gallery Wing Ward 1 (Care of the Elderly) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

We are looking for organised, flexible staff that can prioritize and manage their time well. Individuals will desirably hold a care certificate or be motivated to complete this in role and to be part of an innovative multidisciplinary team to help us deliver safe, effective high quality patient care.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience in an acute ward environment, however this is not essential.

Care of the Elderly is an exciting and rewarding specialty. Within this role, you will have many opportunities to enhance your clinical skills with support from the multidisciplinary team which include pressure ulcer treatment and prevention, rehabilitation, how to take clinical observations and how to recognize a deteriorating patient.

You will also be expected to work collaboratively by taking part in link roles within the unit to help enhance patient care and support quality improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to develop their skills and knowledge in care of the elderly.

Main duties of the job

As a successful candidate, you can look forward to working within a friendly and supportive environment where your training and education will prioritized . You will be offered initial supernumerary status and supported with mentors and structured learning plan.

In doing so you will be be able to confidently and competently carry out your role.

As a Clinical Health Care Support Worker , you will be involved in undertaking a variety of tasks with support from your registered nurse. These include but are not limited to;

You will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of the highest standard of quality care to our patients, working alongside registered nurses and other healthcare professionals

Your role will include providing holistic patient centred care which includes personal care, clinical observations, ensuring patients nutrition and hydration are maintained and that records are accurate.

Within your role you will be required to use Electronic Patient Record system daily to record patient care. Here, you will be required to record clinical observations, skin bundles, fluid balance and food charts.

As this is a bedside role, you will be required to provide excellent interpersonal skills between patients, their families and the multidisciplinary team. All staff must adhere to the duty of confidentiality and candour in this role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy / Appropriate verbal and written communication
Desirable criteria
  • The Care Certificate or equivalent induction training

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of basic nursing and personal care
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and other health and care professionals.
  • Practical ability, prioritisation and time management
Desirable criteria
  • Appropriate recent care experience similar healthcare setting

Additional Duties

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of time management skills and the ability to prioritise along with the ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload and individual patient contact.
  • Demonstrate a respectful, courteous and caring manner.
  • Project a professional persona in manner of appearance and behaviours
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead example to ensure the Trust’s values and behaviours are reinforced.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional.
