We are looking for an enthusiastic, Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our brand new Elective Orthopaedic service that will be delivered at the newly developed Surgical Hub on the site of St. Austell Community Hospital.

This is a static Occupational Therapy post, working 27 hours per week divided equally across 4 days, Monday to Thursday. Weekend working and Bank holiday working are not expected as part of this role.

The post includesadult elective orthopaedic daycase surgery, likely to include (but not restricted to) shoulder, knee, foot and ankle surgeries.

As such, good knowledge of splinting and bracing will be required as well as good discharge planning skills in a daycase environment.

We are looking for a new team member who has an interest in musculoskeletal Occupational Therapy, and who can demonstrate strong leadership skills and an ability to work independently, within this setting.

To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to patients at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, within the Surgical Hub at St. Austell Community Hospital

To on your case load. Some patients will have acute, complex and/or chronic presentations.

To determine clinical diagnosis and effective Occupational Therapy treatment for each individual.

To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

You will develop highly specialist skills under the guidance of senior staff.

To provide clinical cross cover with physiotherapy colleagues as delegated by your Clinical Team Lead.

To attend clinical level discussions/meetings relating to your area of work as delegated by your Clinical Team Lead.

You will be encouraged to develop and use innovative practice and maintain links to clinicians and other health agencies in order to develop and maintain best practice.

To be responsible for ensuring the effective selection and use of thetreatment resources (both human and equipment) available in the department, on the wards, and in the patient’s home environment. To be responsible for the equipment used in carrying out Occupational Therapy duties, and to adhere to departmental policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through, teaching, training and supervision of practice.

To comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy and the Health and Care Professions Council codes of ethics and rules of professional conduct.

To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and be active in applying to your work situation, including maintaining own continuous professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends, national guidelines, and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work.

To maintain clinical competence and be an active member of the in-service training programme by attending and delivering presentations,training sessions, staff meetings, and tutorials, both in house and by attending external courses and practising reflective practice.

To work with your Band 7 in contributing to Multi-professional education.

To participate in the staff appraisal scheme and Personal Development Plan (PDP) as an appraisee and an appraiser.

To monitor and evaluate treatment in order to measure progress and ensure the effectiveness of the intervention.

To be actively involved in the collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department.

To comply with the departmental and organisational policies.

To ensure that you implement policy and service development changes.

To undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Therapy Management Structure.

To be aware of Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies which may be required to improve the safety of your work area, including your prompt recording and reporting of accidents and near accidents using the Trust reporting systems, and ensuring that equipment use is safe.

To risk assess all areas of your work including manual handling risks, bio-hazards from for example soiled sheets, body fluids/sputum, anxious or angry clients/carers, lone working, patients with mental health or cognitive dysfunctions etc.
