[ref. f62566102] Specialist Mental Health Nurse - Emergency Department
- The Emergency Department is looking for a highly motivated B6 RMN to provide high quality psychiatric nursing care and ongoing assessments to patients in the Emergency Department, in particular for those who attend frequently.
- In particular to work alongside colleagues from other organisations (including South West London and St. George’s Mental Health Trust, local authorities, charities and GPs).
- The aim is to provide better quality care for people with mental health conditions, and to help them reduce their attendances to the Emergency Department.
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care, utilising research findings as appropriate.
- Working with colleagues and patients to design and provide well managed care for people who attend ED with a mental health condition.
- Supporting the trust to achieve its aim of reducing attendances to the Emergency Department by people with a mental health condition.
- Providing education and training to nursing colleagues across the department in the safe and effective management of patients with mental health conditions.
- Ensuring nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with St George’s Healthcare policy taking appropriate actions in emergency situations.
- Setting, monitoring and maintaining high standards of nursing care in conjunction with other members of the multi disciplinary team
- Maintaining personal contact with patients, relatives and carers being sensitive to their need for courtesy, dignity and privacy ensuring a friendly environment at all times.
- Maintaining accurate and up to date hourly nursing documentation and ensuring confidentiality is respected.
- Storing, checking and administering medication in accordance with the NMC guidelines and the trust’s Medicine Management Policy.
- To promote equal opportunities for staff and patient’s in accordance with St George's Healthcare NHS Trust policies, to ensure that no person receives less favourable treatment than another.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria- *Registered Mental Health nurse (RMN)
- 12 months recent post RMN registration experience in an acute hospital setting
- Completion of preceptorship programme
Experience
Essential criteria- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to individual needs
- Ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload and workload of others
- Has worked in an acute environment
Skills
