We are actively seeking to recruit Bank Porters to join our Portering Department.
You will have the opportunity to work in all areas of the service; therefore flexibility is an essential aspect of the role.
Applicants must have good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to undertake manual tasks & have the ability to priorities their work. They must be able to work on their own, as well as part of a team, and be willing and able to work earlies, lates, weekends, nights and public holidays.
Some aspects of these jobs are physically demanding and a good level of physical fitness is desirable, applicants will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and help keep the hospital safe during the winter months.
Hours vary depending on the needs of the service. This is a bank post which could lead to up to 37.5 hour per week, 5 out of 7 days.
This post will require you to be trained in all aspects of the Portering department.- To undertake all Portering duties of a routine or non-routine nature as required by a Shift Manager from the Portering Services Department
- To deal with telephone calls and enquiries as required
- The role includes carrying out Departmental Portering, General Portering and Waste Management tasks. When seconded to a department you will be under the immediate supervision of that Department Manager and will be responsible for day-to-day departmental duties
- Duties will also include waste collection duties as required and sweeping roads & entrances
- To clean waste store rooms/compounds
- To be responsible for the external cleanliness of the Hospita
- Required to operate and work with the portering job allocation and information system. Jobs will be allocated through the portering system or clinical system

Key Responsibilities & Duties
You may be required to undertake any of the following:
General Portering: -- Transport patients round the hospital.
- Undertake general mortuary duties in accordance with the agreed procedures.
- Collection and disposal of refuse.
- Frank mail for Royal Mail collection.
- Collect and deliver blood supplies & blood products.
- Delivery & collection of specimens & results to & from the wards & laboratories.
- To carry and respond to a bleep.
- Collect and deliver items from and to the Pharmacy.
- Collection & delivery of Hospital sterilise services items & equipment.
- Keep simple records, where necessary.
- Collection and delivery & changing of medical gas cylinders.
- Collection and delivery of food, when required.
- Collection and delivery of equipment, beds, bedding equipment, furniture,
- To carry out any other work as requested by the Contract Support Manager or his representative.
- To make sure the trusts waste is segregated correctly.
- To collect and move Clinical, Household/General and all other waste types from in and around the Hospital site to waste compounds.
- To keep waste rooms free of waste and clear of all clutter. Keep waste rooms floors clean and mopped.
- Collection and delivery of equipment, beds, bedding equipment, furniture around the hospital.
- To damp-mop/clean waste room floors after removal of waste sacks.
- To issue/deliver shredding sacks and collect full shredding sacks to & from wards/departments and place in store as required.
- To sweep hospital grounds & car parks, and any other area as and when required. Generally morning and afternoon keeping areas clean and tidy, free from litter and cigarette ends.
