We strive to support people to live well and to be safe at home. We do this by having strength-based conversations to support people to promote their wellbeing. We work closely with other organisations to ensure that people are well connected with their local communities and can work towards people achieving their personal outcomes.

The Adult Social Care workforce aims to improve outcomes for people who live in Salford by developing a skilled and motivated workforce. We do this by investing in continued professional development and ensuring that social work practice is current and of a high standard.

You should hold a degree in social work, be registered with Social Work England, with evidence of continuing professional development and a strong understanding of the application of Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Safeguarding Adults.

Salford is an exciting place to work and live. The fastest growing economy in Greater Manchester, the city is already home to the BBC and Granada and is attracting many more digital media, creative and professional businesses. Salford’s growing success is testament to a unique partnership approach that runs through everything that we do.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role includes completing strengths-based assessments and promoting well-being by utilising resources from social care, health and other voluntary or statutory agencies.

The role involves undertaking initial assessments, and proactively working with complex and legal issues, crisis planning, providing information, advice, signposting, and transferring to other social work teams or other services as required.

You will be a skilled practitioner who can identify whether the need for further assessment under section 9 and 10 of the Care Act is necessary, and transfer these to the relevant social work teams for these assessments to take place. You will also be required to complete support planning and reviews.

There is a Safeguarding function within the service, which includes initial information gathering, risk assessing, safety planning and establishing whether Safeguarding Adult Enquiries under section 42 of the Care Act are required.

The role requires resilient practitioners who can manage competing demands and prioritise the work demands effectively. The role requires applicants who are confident and decision makers and who can stay calm under pressure.

Working for our organisation

We are committed to supporting the recruitment and retention of our Social Work staff. It is recognised by the Trust that many experienced Social Work staff are currently likely to be employed by local government organisations, and to ensure there is clarity over terms and conditions of employment we offer National Joint Council Pay Scales to Social Workers we appoint, rather than NHS pay-scales.

We have adopted the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment which is used for recognising continuous service regarding annual leave, sickness, and maternity for moves within Greater Manchester. In addition, we also recognise previous, continuous, national local government service regarding annual leave.
