Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Information Analyst to play a pivotal role in the development of information management and reporting for our HM Prison Birmingham Healthcare Team. We have ambitious plans to radically improve the range and quality of data collected through our SystmOne prison healthcare system, how it is processed efficiently and how it is made easily accessible to leaders and colleagues across the service to inform what we do clinically, operationally and strategically.

To be successful in this role you should be an adaptable forward thinker who thrives on learning and implementing new skills and technologies and putting these into practice to help develop and improve services. You will also need to be an excellent communicator who can lead informatics projects, bridging the gap between technical specialists, managers, and clinical staff.

The successful candidate will work in a closely integrated way with the prison healthcare team and must be happy to work on-site in offices in the healthcare wing of HM Prison Birmingham, although there is some scope for hybrid / home working once established in the role.

Occasional visits to other Trust premises in the area will also be required. Organisationally the role reports into our corporate Information team for professional support and development.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting and varied role, with the primary aim of ensuring that colleagues in the prison healthcare team can easily record and access the information they need to support their day-to-day work, review patterns of care and activity to streamline and improve practice, and account to funders as to the types and quality of services we provide.

This will involve: gaining a detailed understanding of data and reporting requirements and of the SystmOne system; designing, building and implementing data capture forms, producing documentation and reference materials and training staff; extracting, processing and analysing the data recorded and presenting findings, as well as developing automated self-service reporting; and overseeing support, training and data quality activities for system users.

Our offer to you includes a competitive salary and pension, support in your development, a friendly team, stimulating challenges, and a range of opportunities to build your experience and have a direct and positive impact on NHS service delivery.

Technology-wise, we primarily use a Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse and BI stack, and so the ideal candidate will have excellent skills in SQL, Power BI, SSRS, and Excel, or strong experience of similar technologies and the ability to adapt quickly to using these.

Detailed knowledge of SystmOne system design and reporting would be a strong advantage, but aptitude to learn and exploit it rapidly will be essential.
