As a Senior Commercial Manager you will develop and implement innovative commercial and supply chain strategies, driving value for money and ensuring successful project delivery. Your expertise will be crucial in leading complex contract negotiations, managing strategic supplier relationships, and implementing robust risk management frameworks.
You will also champion commercial best practices across many of our corporate and business services, providing expert guidance and mentorship to colleagues. Experience in delivering best in class commercial projects and a deep understanding of public sector procurement regulations is essential.This is an opportunity to directly contribute to the region's development and make a lasting impact on our community.
As a senior member of the Commercial team you will be responsible for developing and implementing commercial and supply chain management strategies to deliver projects worth over £1billion from Government funding. You will be joining the Commercial team at an exciting time.During the next couple of years, the team will be procuring a number of significant infrastructure programmes across rail, road and transport operations in order to deliver its key strategic outcomes. As a key member of the team, you will lead on driving commercial expertise across the Corporate directorate.
Job Description
The Senior Commercial Manager within Corporate will cover a broad range of directorates. Currently the role covers the following areas, which does include some infrastructure projects.- Economies and Skills

Your key responsibilities in this role would be to ensure a focus on delivering the priorities of the Metro Mayor by:
- Developing sourcing and procurement activities that support key business objectives.
- Developing and executing a long-term strategy to facilitate improvements for Procurement Services.
- Ensuring the execution of procurement strategies across the Combined Authority to ensure consistent and high-quality value delivery.
- Implementing best practices in procurement and supplier management to support commercial and operational objectives.
- Ensuring the execution of standards, controls, policies, procedures and performance metrics to effectively and efficiently manage the acquisition and reporting of third-party spend across the Combined Authority.
- Extensive commercial management experience in the delivery of large-scale corporate major projects (£multi-billion)
- Commercial management of significant corporate contracts and negotiating contract changes
- Presenting complex information to a range of key stakeholders to secure buy-in and engagement
- Experience of establishing and growing both commercial and procurement services, particularly in a corporate and/or infrastructure delivery environment
- Experience of detailed analysis of data relating to the review of costs and savings
- Providing coaching and mentoring at a management level to support the embedding of a value for money culture
- A successful track record of engaging effectively with others at a senior level and building productive partnerships with key stakeholders
- Salary £60,204 - £67,505
- 26/31 days annual Leave (5 extra days after 5 years continuous or reckonable service)
