Job overview

We are looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist with an interest in neuropsychological assessment to join our multidisciplinary memory assessment service 2 days per week.

Main duties of the job

As an assistant psychologist the post holder will contribute to neuropsychological assessments as part of a Dementia Care Pathway memory assessment service. They will administer a standardized neuropsychological assessment battery after ensuring informed consent.

They will then discuss hypotheses and possible formulations in supervision to present to the MDT care planning meeting. They will complete electronic patient record entries and research database entries.

Depending on experience, the responsibilities of the job may involve assisting in delivery of teaching on best practice in the use of cognitive screening tools as well as set up, planning and evaluation of training activities. There may be opportunities to contribute to evaluating outcomes and to service audit.

Further, the post holder will contribute to building our clinical research capability, working with senior staff to support expanding opportunities for doctoral level and funded research.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is based in Epping and the post holder will join our cohesive, supportive and well regarded team of 5 qualified psychologists and 1 Clinical Associate in Psychology who provide services in inpatient, community mental health and dementia care settings in West Essex for Older People.

You would join the Essex Partnership University Foundation Trust Directorate of Psychological Services, with our Aspiring Psychologists peer support and CPD group.

Our team has strong links with the University of Hertfordshire and University of Essex Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training courses and you would work alongside Doctoral Trainees on clinical placements.

Essential & Desireable

Essential criteria
  • An honours degree (or equivalent) in Psychology OR Successful completion of a BPS accredited post-graduate Psychology conversion programme
  • Eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered membership of the British Psychological Society.
Desirable criteria
  • Further courses relevant to work in mental health and/or related to psychological interventions or training

  • Aware of the expectations of professional and ethical behaviour and ability to act in accordance with these.

  • Paid or voluntary experience relevant to working in psychological service, training or research settings, including work in community groups and part-time work.
