THE OPPORTUNITY
We are currently seeking a Deputy Headteacher to join our impressive team. This appointment is a great opportunity for an ambitious educator who wants to develop their career as a leader.
The Deputy Head supports the Head in leading and managing the school and deputies for her in her absence.
THE ROLE
Main purpose
The Deputy Head ensures the vision and values of the school are clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted on effectively by all. They will support and when necessary deputises for the Head in leading and managing the school efficiently and effectively, to provide the highest quality of education for each child in the school.
Responsibilities
Leadership
The Deputy Head works with the Head to develop the vision and strategic view of the School.
Teaching and Learning
The Deputy Head aims to secure, sustain and develop effective teaching and learning throughout the school.
Management
The Deputy Head supports, challenges and develops teachers.
Compliance
Ensuring all staff comply with teaching standards, school policies, processes and procedures.
Ensuring the school complies with the ISA regulations.
Confidentiality
The Deputy Head will have access to information of a confidential nature. Under no circumstances may this information be divulged or passed on to any unauthorised person or organisation.
Data Protection
The Deputy Head will have access to data and personal information that must be processed in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Data Protection Act (2018) and properly applied to pupils, staff and school business/information.
Safeguarding
The Deputy Head will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow school policies and the staff Code of Conduct contained in the Employee Handbook.
General
Set an example of continuous personal development, participating in appropriate training to maintain up-to-date professional expertise.
Undertake an element of class teacher, setting an example of excellent teaching.
This is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that the Deputy Head will carry out. The postholder may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to the level of the role which may from time to time be reasonably assigned by the Head.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications- Qualified teacher status
- Degree
- Strong track record teaching early years children
- Ideally, have experience of successful line management and staff development, gained in the role of Coordinator, Assistant Head or Deputy Head in the early years sector
- Previous involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning
- Ability to lead, inspiring, challenging motivating and empowering others
- Understanding of high-quality teaching, and the ability to model this for others and support others to improve
- Understand the nature of independent education and the high expectations of challenging and inspiring young children
- Have knowledge and experience of SENCo role in the early years sector
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships
- Data analysis skills, and the ability to use data to set targets and identify weaknesses
- Ability to investigate, solve problems and make decisions
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Emotional resilience and ability to work under pressure
- Knowledge and experience of the regulatory framework as applicable to Early Years in independent schools
- A commitment to getting the best outcome for all pupils and promoting the ethos and values of the school
