A presentation will be required as part of the recruitment process and there is an expectation that the post holder will support in the delivery of a 24/7 laboratory service.
Main duties of the job
Responsible as lead Biomedical Scientist for a specialist area
Manages and coordinates the day to day activities of the team
Leads on service improvement
Processes specialist investigations and responsible for standard and quality of results
Provides specialist advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and timescales
Provides specialist service e.g. training, advanced trouble shooting, problem solving for specialist requirement.
To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 day per week service.
Maintain and promote professional image of both Pathology and CUH Trust.
To work safely as the job entails coming into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
- MSc in Biomedical Science or related subject
- Additional appropriate specialist qualification if required, E.G higher specialist diploma (IBMS
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development
- Holds or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as a certificate in Quality Management, Training or Leadership
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of Pathology IT systems.
- Experience of Quality Management Systems.
- Experience of training and supervision of staff
- Substantial practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
- Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS at a senior level
- Experience of performing incident investigations, audits and risk assessments.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Theoretical knowledge of Biomedicalbiomedical procedures.
- Specialist knowledge of Blood Sciences – particularly Biochemistry and/or Haematology
- Knowledge of Pathology IT systems.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
- Demonstrable understanding of ISO15189.
- Knowledge of HR policies.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Able to prioritise own workload and that of others to meet the needs of the service.
