Highly Specialist Dietitian - Nutrition Support Gastro / Surgery
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two dietitians with acute hospital experience to join our friendly and supportive team, within our band 6 rotation. The post holders will contribute to the service provided to our medical gastroenterology and colorectal surgical units, the latter of which is delivered in a recently opened £28 million trauma and surgical facility.You will be working alongside the advanced clinical lead dietitians and be responsible for managing an inpatient caseload of patients requiring dietary advice or enteral, parenteral and oral nutritional support. You will also undertake outpatient clinics.
Main duties of the job
Provide a dietetic service to the gastroenterology or colorectal surgery wards.
Undertake outpatient clinics either virtually or face to face.
Work closely with other members of the MDT.
Contribute to audit and policy development.
Participate in regular education of medical and nursing staff.
Train pre-registration student dietitians on clinical placement.

Person specification
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria- Good Knowledge of Nutrition and Dietetics and an understanding of the dietary management of common conditions requiring diet therapy
- Experience of acute dietetics
- Awareness of HCPC standards
- Well developed communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Ability to convey complex information in an understandable way
- Awareness of the role of audit and evidence based practice
- Experience of Gastroenterology
- Basic knowledge of clinical governance
- Knowledge of different ethnic cultures and religions
- Experience of pre registration dietetic student training
Essential qualifications
Essential criteria- HCPC registered
- BSc/ MSc Nutrition and Dietetics or Post graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
- FODMAP Trained
- Accredited BDA course in specialist area
- Membership of the BDA Member of Specialist Interest Group
