We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacy Technician with a passion for working in an acute mental health trust to join us as the Lead Technician – Education, Training and Workforce.
The post holder will have oversight to lead and deliver our training strategy for Technicians, Student Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants. This will review, develop and maintain core-training programs in collaboration with other Lead Technicians in line with service requirements, and work closely with Senior Pharmacy colleagues to extend the boundaries of existing pharmacy technician and support staff training within the department.
This role requires excellent leadership and communication skills and will involve managing and supporting staff, as well as ensuring that training requirements are constantly met and moving forward to meet the needs of the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery and implementation of a co-ordinated, highly effective Pharmacy Education and Training strategy for Technicians and Support staff working across all areas of the department, in line with GPhC and national standards.
This will involve overseeing, coordinating and supporting the following:- Formal training programs for Pharmacy Technician Students & Assistants.
- Working with other Lead Technicians and the Strategic Lead Pharmacist – Workforce Development to organise, develop and train staff in line with service requirements, ensuring that rotas accommodate the training needs of technical and support staff, to cover:
- Medicines Management modules
- ACPT (Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician)
- Staff working towards Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications or equivalent.
The post holder will review, develop and maintain core-training programs in collaboration with the specialist area leads, including reviewing and updating existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the production of new SOPs as required.
The postholder will be part of the senior Pharmacy Technician team and will contribute to development and quality improvement opportunities as part of the pharmacy strategic plan and competing demands. They will also hold line management responsibilities, and a clinical service commitment as an MMT.

The role will require liaising with training providers, managing change in relation to regional and national education policy updates as well as maintaining and contributing to departmental policies and procedures relating to the training of pharmacy technicians and support staff.
Applications are encouraged from GPhC registered pharmacy technicians working in any area in pharmacy, as there will be opportunities for the development of clinical skills as well as the opportunity to undertake further clinical training.

Essential criteria- BTEC diploma in pharmaceutical science & NVQ level 3 diploma in pharmacy skills (or equivalent qualification) Registration with the General Pharmaceutical council Locally/ nationally accredited accuracy checker (or willing/ able to achieve)

Essential criteria- Skills and experience to effectively engage patients in meaningful discussion about the safe and effective use of medicines. Knowledge of electronic systems used to manage medicines supply, prescribing and patient records. Committed to the provision of compassionate, high-quality patient-centered care
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Knowledge and understanding of medicines optimisation Experience of managing a team or service using planning, prioritisation and delegation skills. Experience of delivering presentations/ training and producing written reports/ procedures

Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees – temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks.
The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work.Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.
