York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are looking for an approachable and flexible Cleaning Operative to join our team in York. Experience is not necessary as full training will be given, but a willingness to learn and develop your skills is essential.
The working pattern for this role is –
Monday to Friday 14:00-20:00
Monday to Friday 17:00-20:00
Saturday / Sunday 07:30-14:00
Saturday / Sunday 14:00-20:00
We do have other working patterns and contracted hours available, from 10 hours per week to 27.5 hours per week, and the department works across 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We may well have a working pattern to suit your circumstances, so please do get in touch to discuss what else we have available or put your working pattern preference on your application form.

The main responsibilities of the role are maintaining levels of cleanliness throughout a designated area.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to; • Ensuring that the ward/area you are assigned to is cleaned in accordance with the work schedule for that area. This will include lifting items and operating cleaning machinery, some of which is industrial standard- Undertaking specialist cleaning as required under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor and/or Nurse in Charge and/or Infection Prevention Department
- Using machinery/equipment in accordance to your training to prevent endangering yourself and others
- Ensuring all the cleaning materials and disposables are used economically and are stored securely and safely in your work area
- Ensuring that whilst carrying out your duties the correct colour coded equipment is used to prevent cross contamination
You will work without immediate supervision so must be able to prioritise and use your own initiative. Tasks may need to be completed under time and other pressures, but you will maintain standards and pride in your work.
We are looking for people who are able to read, write and converse in English. You will also have a basic understanding of/are willing to complete appropriate qualifications and training in:- knowledge of cleaning procedures,
- COSSH procedures
- infection prevention and control
- Relevant water systems training
- Use of equipment such as floor cleaning machinery
- National terms and conditions for NHS workers
- Competitive hourly rate of£12.08.
- Enhanced Pay for unsocial hours worked – unsocial hours are any hours worked on weekends or between the hours of 8pm and 6am. At Band 2, the enhancements are: all time on Saturday (midnight to midnight) and any week day after 8 pm and before 6 am or all time on Sundays and Public Holidays (midnight to midnight)
