Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work as part of theatre team to assist or circulate for surgical procedures.- Work competently in a variety of specialities for Paediatric and adult patients.
- To practice in accordance with the NMC / HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies and procedures.
- Work within the Operating Theatre and ‘Out of Department’ areas undertaking competencies as required.
- To be an effective team member.
- Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients and cohesive service delivery.
- Train more junior staff and take part in the induction and orientation of new staff following appropriate training.
- Participate in clinical supervision/appraisals/audits.
- Take every opportunity to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence, reporting to senior staff any deficits that impinge on practice in a timely fashion whilst meeting the needs of the service.
- Implement and evaluate care plans as appropriate to surgical requirement and patients condition.
- Monitor and assess patient’s condition, responding to changes in condition, proposing / making changes to care plan as required.
- To be aware of the management of drugs and to adhere to local policies and administer drugs as prescribed.
- Handover and transferring responsibility of care to colleagues, ensuring appropriate information and care is relayed.
- Direct and participates in the maneuvering and the positioning of both conscious and unconscious patients.
- Act as a clinical and professional role model at all times and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice when necessary.
- Ensure all equipment has been regularly maintained Ensure all equipment is used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Ensure any equipment found to be faulty/unsafe should be removed from use and reported to the appropriate department.
