The LYPFT Safeguarding team are looking to recruit a highly motivated, experienced, registered nurse with a background in safeguarding. The post holder will undertake delegated leadership for the LYPFT safeguarding team and responsibilities to further support proactive engagement with the existing local safeguarding partners.The post holder will need to demonstrate extensive experience in safeguarding children and adults in a health care setting.
The role of the Named Nurse involves leading and overseeing safeguarding children and adult’s quality assurance and improvement across the whole of LYPFT NHS trust. The safeguarding team provide expert advice to practitioner’s, ensuring all services meet statutory requirements around safeguarding and promote the welfare of children, and adults.The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Safeguarding.
As Named Nurse there is a responsibility to develop the long-term strategic plan for safeguarding children and adults in line with the organisations aims and values, implementing the strategy responsively, incorporating adaptations to new developments, guidance and recommendations.The post offers an exciting opportunity regarding improvement and the promotion of evidenced based safeguarding practice.
Main duties of the job
Support the Head of Safeguarding and Public protection in the development and implementation of strategies, plans, policies, and procedures relevant to Safeguarding within the Trust to ensure these take account of national and local safeguarding children’s partnerships /local Safeguarding Adult Boards (LSAB) guidance.Support with the leadership of the PREVENT MAPPA and domestic abuse strategy. Model a safeguarding culture across LYPFT and promote communication that clearly conveys that safeguarding is part of everyday clinical practice in whatever setting it takes place.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a role that will require developed leadership skills, an innovative approach to safeguarding leadership and an insight into project management skills. The post holder will need to be a confident, assertive communicator who has excellent interpersonal skills and regards themselves as someone who enjoys engaging and interacting with other safeguarding clinicians and building resilience within the safeguarding team.- An in-depth knowledge and understanding of legislation, statutory guidance and best practice in safeguarding
- Knowledge of MAPPA processes
- Experience of working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies
- Ability to understand, analyse and interpret highly complex information in order to advise commissioners on all aspects of safeguarding performance
- Ability to self-reflect and make good use of supervision

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered Nurse Educated to master’s level (Safeguarding /Health or Social Care. Evidence of up-to-date CPD.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- The post holder must have significant working knowledge of children’s and adults’ local authority services, with significant experience in safeguarding children’s work (link worker or equivalent). The post holder will demonstrate knowledge of the children’s act and will be aware of current affairs, Working together, Munroe report and recommendations. The post holder will have a working knowledge of the children’s act 2004 and the social care act 2014, substance misuse and domestic abuse act 2021 and its impact on families.
- Change management, Leadership skills, Evidence of problem, decision solving/ solution focussed thinking. Risk reduction skills, Evidence of research activity / critical appraisal skills. Commitment to evidence-based and contemporary practice. Demonstrates an awareness of the current NHS agenda (safe care delivery and abuse prevention issues).
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of interagency partnership working at a strategic level. Experience of providing investigative reports following serious incidents. Ability to prepare reports, analyse highly complex data for Boards, Committees and Management groups. Work closely with all Trust Managers to identify areas for improvement for child and adult Safeguarding and MAPPA practice, developing and implementing remedial action plans to address the issues. This post holder will demonstrate positive values with regard to families and children, The individual will be self-motivated but work under direction and should be assertive and positive with all agencies The individual should champion safeguarding adults and children.
Skills
Essential criteria- The individual should be able to communicate effectively including negotiating skills and conflict management. The post holder must have demonstrable experience of audit design, implementation and evaluation. The post holder will be able to demonstrate knowledge of risk management process and systems and have experience of the wider public health agenda. The post holder will have experience of teaching or training.
Where candidates are successful at interview, flexible working arrangement requests will be taken into consideration and may be accommodated where the needs of the service allow.
Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees – temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks.
The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work.Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.
