As a SEND Maths Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering tailored maths instruction that meets the unique needs of students with a range of learning difficulties. The main purpose of the role is to provide inspirational and engaging teaching whilst nurturing a safe, secure, and caring educational environment. We believe that every student matters, and as a SEND Maths Teacher, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our students’ lives.Your role will primarily involve teaching Maths to Key Stage 3 students who have a range of additional needs, ensuring that lessons are tailored to meet individual learning styles and abilities.
As a SEND Maths Teacher at Bitterne Park School, the successful candidate will play a key role in the development of the students within our school, and your influence will be instrumental in providing a lasting, positive effect on both the educational and life outcomes for young people with various educational challenges.Over 24% of our students have Special Educational Needs (SEND), across the four broad areas of need, including Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Moderate Learning Needs (MLD). It is crucial that you possess the patience and understanding to nurture these students, supporting their unique learning journeys.
Requirements:
- Teaching qualification with QTS (essential)
- Commitment to inclusion and a belief in education for all (essential)
- SEND qualification or evidence of SEND training (desirable)
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with pupils (essential)
- Experience of teaching maths and numeracy skills at either primary level or in a specialist school environment (desirable)
- Knowledge of the curriculum with a proven ability to adapt teaching and personalise learning journeys to meet the range of needs of our students (essential)
- Ability to establish and maintain high-quality planning and assessment for learning (essential)
- Value collaboration with colleagues and parents/carers to ensure a shared approach to student support (essential)
- Understanding of specialist strategies to address difficulties in the four broad areas of need and familiarity with specific diagnoses such as: ASC, ADHD, and Moderate Learning Needs (essential)
Your ability to reflect on and evaluate your practices will be crucial in helping students achieve their personal best.

Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
- Experience in teaching Maths, with a focus on SEND student needs.
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and a multidisciplinary team.
