Undertake a career pathway of training and education that is individually developed for you and supported by our clinical nurse educators on the wards and class room.
Your skills will be further enhanced nursing a diverse range of patients in need of paediatric medical and surgical services, including:
- High dependency care
- Haematology
- Acute trauma
- Respiratory
- Allergy/immunology
- Diabetes
- Metabolic
- Epilepsy
- Infectious Disease
We also receive admissions direct from our paediatric emergency department for acute trauma care. Our service further includes providing ambulatory PSSU day care from St Mary’s Hospital.
Our teams have excellent inter-professional working relationships with services for children including critical care, emergency department, community nursing teams and the ambulatory care unit.

Main duties of the job- Providing high quality, effective and individualised nursing care to a variety of patients in a compassionate and caring way.
- Assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating care plans without supervision.
- Helping to lead and monitor the performance of the nursing team.
- Deputising for the Senior Nurse as required.

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered Sick Children’s Nurse, RSCN
- Experience of supervision of junior staff, Mentorship in practice or equivalent
- ENP/ANP or working towards
- Masters or working towards
Experience
Essential criteria- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Minimum of 12 months at pay band 5 within the relevant speciality.
- Critical care or acute ward experience
- Supervision and assessment of staff at all levels in clinical practice
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria- Ability to take charge of a ward or part of a ward, delegate and supervise junior staff
- Advanced interpersonal skills
- Effective time management for self and others
- Able to manage difficult situations effectively.
- Able to use own initiative.
