Practice Nurse / Lead Nurse
Job Responsibilities: Professional: Assist in and perform routine tasks and treatment room services related to patient care as directed by the practice. Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations, travel advice and vaccination, and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions in accordance with current Green Book/Department of Health recommendations.
Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Facilitates change. Urinalysis Adult Venepuncture including facilitating warfarin management.
Cervical smears with an understanding of guidelines for re-call, HPV screening and sexual health. Hypertension Management including performing ECGs and 24hr ABPM fitting. Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs when appropriate.
Interest in assisting in the management of long-term conditions such as Asthma, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, COPD & contraception (including administration of dep-provera and assisting minor procedures such as coil fits and implant removals).
Follow agreed clinical protocols with referral to the relevant nurse lead or GPs as appropriate. Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines. Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical procedures with regard to Safeguarding of Children and Adults including systems of referral.
Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse, domestic abuse and female genital mutilation. Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines. Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
Assist in the provision of minor surgery. Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written). Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained. Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, maintaining The Cold Chain and emergency equipment.
Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times. Awareness of and adherence to Information Governance procedures. Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs. Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking, and rotating items as required Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms.
Ordering of Health Promotion Literature Ordering of vaccinations, stocked drugs, and medical supplies to maintain stock levels. Participation in administrative systems in the Practice At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate and contemporaneous records A duty to advise GP partners of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks.
Managerial: Contribute to the assessment of service needs. Assist patients to identify their health needs. Contribute a nursing perspective to the Practice development plan. Manage and organise individual patient consultations. Aware of identification and reporting procedures related to professional standards.
To attend staff meetings. Ensure effective relationships and communications with other agencies as appropriate. Support the Practice clinical governance agenda. Identify changes to clinical practice that are required to implement evidence-based guidelines.
To assist the practice in the preparation for regulatory inspections such as CQC visits and GP training and engage with the visiting teams as required. Educational: Identify personal development and training needs in conjunction with the manager.
Support others with their training and development needs. To participate in continuing education and maintain a contemporary level of professional knowledge and skills. Personnel: Maintain good interpersonal relations. Take reasonable care of his/her own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by his/her act or omission.
Co-operation with the Practice to ensure all members of the team adheres to statutory regulations/policies and codes of practice and departments safety rules. Offer innovative ways of working and opportunities to facilitate learning. Facilitates a learning environment within the team.

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards Use appropriate infection control procedures and maintain work areas and reporting of any potential risks identified, including: o Hand washing o Universal hygiene procedures o Collection and handling of laboratory specimens o Segregation and disposal of waste materials o Reporting and treatment of sharps and injuries o Dealing with blood and body fluid spillages o Assist patients and colleagues in adopting sound infection control measures.
