We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and ambitious Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic operational Team. The post holder must be keen to learn and develop with excellent communication and interpersonal skills..
Barts health, being the largest Trust in UK, are committed to training Pre-registration Pharmacy technicians Trainee Assistant Technical Officers every year giving a large amount of opportunities for successful candidates to develop within the Pharmacy Technician and assistants career pathway, so you will be helping to develop their skills.
You will be provided with supervisors, training and support throughout the process.
Duties/Areas of this post include:- Act as a ES and PS for our trainees
- Dispensary/Stores
- Develop links with other hospital staff, as appropriate for service needs
- Project work
- Mentor for Trainee Pharmacy Assistants, Rotational Foundation Pharmacy Technicians and pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians
- Leadership
Applicants must hold a BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent, be Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).Previous experience of working in Hospital or Community Pharmacy is essential.

Main duties of the job- To support the management of dispensary and stores with the day-to-day tasks, including organisation of workload and supervision of all staff in the dispensary/stores
- To provide training to new, rotational, and permanent staff
- To keep accurate up to date records of training provided and update training manuals on a regular basis.
- Additional line management responsibilities for junior staff members
- Monitoring and reporting Key Performances Indicators (KPI’s)
- Training and developing staff
- Maintain and auditing the management of controlled drugs, FP10 and stock control
- Co-coordinating pharmacy specific audits
- Implementing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Supporting ward based dispensing programs such as dispensing satellite areas.

Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working in a hospital or community pharmacy setting
- Experience as a pharmacy technician
- Experience of supervising others and providing feedback for development
- Experience of pharmacy labelling and stock control systems
- Patient counselling
- Experience or organising a service on a day-to–day basis
- Experience of holding regular team meetings
- Experience of giving feedback
- Experience of hospital stock distribution and top-up services.
- Medicines management experience in a ward based setting, e.g. medication history taking, POD assessment etc.
Skills
Essential criteria- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- IT literate and able to use Microsoft office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Interpret and dispense prescriptions accurately
- Organisation and prioritisation of workload
- Ability to problem solve

Knowledge
Essential criteria- Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements
- Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- Understanding of stock control systems
- Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
- Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
- Understand how pharmacy technicians can develop their role
Qualifications
Essential criteria- BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
- HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent
- Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
- ILM Level 2 or level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
