An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly and dynamic team at James Cook University Hospital as an apprentice, delivering Neurophysiology and Sleep services in the Middlesbrough/Tees Valley area.
You will be primarily working alongside 1 Principal Clinical Neurophysiologist, 1 Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist, 3 Specialised Clinical Physiologists, 3 Clinical Physiologist, 3 Consultant Neurophysiologists and an Administration Team.

In addition you will be working alongside a team of Associate and Assistant sleep physiologists.

You will be expected to have excellent communication skills, IT skills, enthusiasm for making a difference to patients and clients along with a friendly and understanding disposition. Previous experience of working with the general public in a caring capacity would be an advantage.

The post holder will be involved in all aspects of clinical Neurophysiology, including Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), Sleep studies including Polysomnography (PSG) and Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MLST).

Annex 21 Salary Applies - From £23,875 to £36,483

these are the percentages of the top of the band we would pay:

Year 1 65%

Year 2 70%

Year 3 75%

Main duties of the job

This position is a full time 3 years fixed term contract, with a substantive post available following successful completion of the degree apprenticeship in Healthcare Science level 6, specialising in Neurophysiology which is delivered at University of West England (Bristol) for which you will need to travel, and attaining the ANS part 1 professional examination.

The degree is funded and the successful candidate will be given a fixed amount for travel and subsistence. The ANS part 1 professional examination will be self-funded.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • GCSE: Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent (Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English would be accepted).
  • A-level subjects: Grade C or above in one of the subject requirements shown below.
  • Specific subjects: Biology, Applied Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Health and Social Care, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Applied Science, Science in Society, Sport and Physical Education, Sports Studies.
  • EDEXCEL (BTEC) Diploma: You'll need a minimum of five units in an acceptable subject.
  • You must not hold a similar degree qualification (including apprenticeship) and you must not be in any form of formal government-funded education.

The department of Neurophysiology is responsible for providing a comprehensive, highly specialist clinical diagnostic service to patients of all ages from a range of specialities suffering from a wide range of medical disorders including those which may be neurological and/or psychiatric in nature.
