Clinical Research Assistant- Fixed Term 12 months

We are looking for an enthusiastic, and highly motivated Clinical Research Assistant to join our Reproductive Health and Childbirth research team, and contribute to the running of studies at Barts Health NHS Trust This is an exciting post which will provide an opportunity for you to develop clinical research skills.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Research Assistant will be a point of contact for participants and health professionals. The role will involve the identification of potential participants, providing. Study specific training will be provided. You will also be expected to assist in the development and implementation of the wider research agenda and contribute to studies eligible for inclusion on the NIHR portfolio.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Reproductive Health and Childbirth programme was established in 2010 at Barts Health NHS Trust , and has expertise in securing, managing and delivering research training and projects with strong international and national collaborative links in obstetrics and gynaecology.

You will be joining a small and friendly team of researchers across 3 hospitals.

This post is fixed term for one year in the first instance, with continued funding from Genomics England based on recruitment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current certificate in ICH-GCP
  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • First honours degree in healthcare in science related subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of dealing with the public on a regular basis
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience of working in a research environment.
  • Recent experience of working as a Health Care assistant or in a healthcare related role
  • Experience of using electronic case report forms in clinical trials.
  • Recruitment of and/or interaction with study participants to clinical trials

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of ICH GCP, other research governance regulations and guidance and associate good clinical practice
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and current national systems and structures for the approval, management and monitoring of clinical research in the NHS
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act
  • Knowledge of web-based applications
  • Understanding of NHS business and administrative processes
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of patient and data confidentially procedures

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge & experience of MS Office applications especially Excel
  • Numerate with advanced IT skills (MS Office 2003 and above - Access, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels
  • Able to handle sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
Desirable criteria
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Sample collection and processing
