If so, you should consider becoming a Senior Manager in the Department for Work and Pensions’ Contract Management & Partner Delivery (CMPD) Directorate.

Contract Management and Partner Delivery has overall responsibility for the effective contract management of external suppliers delivering specialist services for our most vulnerable customers, including those who are disabled, have health conditions or are in long term unemployment.

This includes performance management, continuous improvement and ensuring every payment made to an external provider is a valid one.

DWP is looking to fill multiple roles in CMPD directorate. The roles available are in various divisions across CMPD, for further information on each division and the locations available please see the candidate pack.

So, what about the day to day?
  • You’ll initially complete the foundation level of the Contract Management Capability Programme.
  • You will drive areas of responsibility forward by leading on key areas of work within your area; communicating and presenting with confidence both within the team and to more senior colleagues.
  • You’ll provide effective leadership to develop staff/teams by managing team dynamics, considering individual needs and creating a genuine team spirit.
  • You’ll drive improvements from conception through to successful conclusion by building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, managing conflicting stakeholder views constructively to ensure continuous improvement, communicating confidently both verbally and in writing.
  • You will develop and maintain an awareness of wider issues and a consideration of other priorities, sourcing evidence via different streams (e.g. previous performance data, feedback from suppliers, analysis, management information etc.) to effectively contract manage and inform decision making to drive key pieces of work forward.
  • You’ll draft formal documentation by following legal, commercial and policy requirements; liaising with relevant stakeholders to gather information and providing response to high level Senior Civil Service information requests, preparing board papers, responding to ministerial work, etc.
  • You’ll work closely with cross cutting and controlled correspondence teams within Division, providing support as a Subject Matter Expert for your area of work.
  • You will support the delivery of CMPD and DWP aims, objectives and vision, supporting and/or deputising for your G7 Manager if/when required.
  • You’ll be responsible for improving your own learning, keeping in mind the need to consistently improve your understanding of the role and methods to be used.
  • You will undertake specific ad hoc duties as and when required, in line with operational needs and Directorate/Division requirements.
  • You will obtain or maintain specific qualifications required to perform your role.
  • You’ll deliver Line Management responsibilities as required.
  • You'll be willing to frequently travel to other DWP/Supplier locations, with occasional overnight stays as required.
Hybrid working: These job roles may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.

The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
