Due to continued growth in a dynamic inhouse legal department, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Litigation Solicitor (NQ-3 PQE) to join their team. Working remotely, advising on a wide array of legal challenges in the early stages of a potential dispute as well as work closely with the Head of Department on ongoing high level legal cases throughout all level of the civil courts in England and Wales.
This opportunity will focus on a broad range of commercial disputes, so we are preferably looking for individuals with NQ-2 years PQE experience across multiple sectors and clients. You will work with the Head of Department and other team members, both legal and other professionals in the field developing your knowledge and expertise.
The successful individual will have a varied and active position with no one day like another, however they can expect to advise the Board, heads of departments and other internal colleagues on potential risk and ongoing matters as well as represent the Company in a legal capacity to developers; landlords; opponents, legal counsel and significant public sector bodies.
As this role is in-house you will not have any time recording or billing targets.
This opportunity is ideally suited for a candidate who meets or has experience of the below:
- A newly qualified solicitor or a solicitor with up to 3 years PQE
- Experience in civil litigation, commercial litigation or property litigation is essential
- Can demonstrated the ability to run own files, handle key clients & relationships and work collaboratively as part of a high performing team
- Has experience liaising with key clients and managing relationships
- You seek desirable outcome via settlement or case conclusion
- Where necessary, litigating cases and preparing for court hearings
- Allocation of administrative tasks to paralegals and/or Legal Administrators (if required Is a technical lawyer and can think creatively and strategically
- Can adapt to change and ambiguity in a complex, fast-changing environment, and who is competent in coping with uncertainty and risk
- Has the ability to articulate complex matters in a concise and precise manner and to debate issues and ideas constructively
- Has experience in attending all levels of hearing and trials across the various civil courts and tribunals
- Excellent academic attainment
Purpose of the Role:
The Civil Litigation Solicitor works closely with the Head of Department on high level legal cases throughout all level of the civil courts in England and Wales.
Advising on a wide range of legal matters, the Civil Litigation Solicitor represents the Company in a legal capacity to developers, landlords, opponents, legal counsel and significant public sector bodies.
The postholder is responsible for working on a broad range of commercial disputes, advising Senior Managers and internal teams on potential risks and ongoing matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
Procedures- Run a broad ranging, high quality caseload with minimal supervision in the County Court as well as the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) mediations and other forms of ADR
- Prepare and run hostile & non-hostile cases pursuant to the Housing Act 1988, Housing Act 1985 and the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Deal with a wide variety of Dispute Resolution/Civil Litigation matters such as breach of contract, debt claims, negligence, employment matter and Judicial Reviews
- Deal with, and litigating as required, on matters involving dilapidations, breaches of planning, rent reviews, break notices, forfeiture and possession
- Deal with breach allegations, access issues and disclosure of commercially sensitive information
- Research appropriate case law and technical and legal precedents to progress matters
- Provide strategic litigation advice to the Head of Department and colleagues as required
- Ensure files are managed in compliance with mandatory internal and external procedures and service level agreements
- Monitor and deal with the management of information to all relevant parties in a matter
- Participate in firm-wide and departmental training sessions
- Meet targets as agreed
- Manage files and time in a cost-effective manner
- Work closely with your line manager and team members
- Collaborate with others, attending meetings as required
- Supporting team members and provide on-the-job training
- Provide cover for other staff as agreed by line manager
- Active participation in project initiatives, including giving and assisting with presentations, writing articles and internal informational correspondence
- Keep up-to-date with all written and verbal communications (i.e. emails/messages/calls)
- Ensure all records are maintained and kept up-to-date according to company policies and procedures
- Monitor own work levels, progress and development in the role
- Undertake all core learning and development programmes as required
- Undertake relevant learning according to agreed Personal Development Plan
