Would you like to develop your supervisory and leadership skills? Due to internal promotion we have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Senior Pharmacy Assistant Procurement & Distribution.
Main duties of the job
The position is based at the trusts centralised pharmacy stores department at the Wells Road Centre in Nottingham.
The successful candidate will lead and co-ordinate the work of the Pharmacy Assistants working within the pharmacy Stores and ensure the effective day to day running of the pharmacy distribution service including the receipt of orders from external suppliers.
You will participate in stock supply to wards and departments, including visiting sites for ward top up services, and re-order supplies as necessary.
There is currently no requirements to work weekends, late nights or bank holidays.
A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To lead/co-ordinate the work of the Pharmacy Assistants working within the pharmacy Stores.
- To prepare work rotas for the Distribution team.
- To liaise with Lead technicians in both the Pharmacy Stores and Dispensary to ensure adequate pharmacy assistant cover at all times.
- To be responsible for ensuring that team members carry out the duties required of them to the accepted standards and within the accepted timescale under the direction of the Lead Pharmacy Technician Procurement & Distribution
- Under the direction of the Lead Pharmacy Technician Procurement & Distribution ensure that all members of the team are inducted and trained appropriately for the duties expected of them.
- To ensure supervised staff follow relevant departmental and Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
- To participate in the preparation of guidelines and procedures and to ensure Trust and department policies and procedures are followed.
- To participate in various checking procedures according to defined policies and completion of appropriate competency assessment -this includes the receipt of Controlled drugs from Suppliers
- To assist Pharmacists and Technicians, where necessary, in the actioning of Ward Stock Reviews.
- To ensure that Stock Lists are up to date, accurate and suitable for the wards requirements – feeding back and resolving issues where necessary.
- To participate in stock supply to wards and departments, including visiting sites for ward top up services, and re-order supplies as necessary.
- To rotate goods checking expiry dates and reporting on any expired stock.
- To receive goods into the department, unpack and check delivery against delivery note, order or requisition.
- To put goods away in the correct location, checking computer records to ascertain the correct location if appropriate. To participate in the return to shelves of drugs after use.
- To maintain the correct level of stock requirements for the area
- To undertake storekeeping duties if required.
- To maintain the working areas ensuring that they are clean and tidy and to clean work surfaces and equipment as required.
- To maintain records, either manual or computerised, in a clearly defined filing system, which is maintained allowing easy access for other users and undertake office duties as required e.g. photocopying.
- To ensure effective communication between Trust pharmacy staff, service users and suppliers.
- To answer the telephones and deal with enquiries where appropriate, take messages or refer to a more appropriate member of staff.
- To be responsible for coordinating expiry date checking within the Pharmacy Stores.
- To assist in the actioning of Drug Recall procedures.
- To take an active role in the department’s waste management
- To be responsible for ensuring that the team are fully aware of the correct procedures for supply, collection and disposal of all waste materials including Hazardous waste and ensure these procedures are followed.
- To participate in the management of medication returns ensuring recycling and destruction as per local policy.
- To liaise with portering and transport services to ensure service requirements are provided and escalate any failures as appropriate.
- To fulfil required dispensary duties on a rota basis
- To work within the main dispensary at designated times, labelling and dispensing prescriptions to maintain dispensing competencies.
- To undertake any other duties as may be required within the nature and grade of the post
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- • NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills(QCF) and BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science OR Accredited Dispensing Assistants Course (NPA)
- • Maths and English to GCSE grade C or equivalent
Training
Essential criteria- • Undertake training in relation to departmental procedures
- • Undertake in-house stores checking validation
- • Undertake Trust mandatory training
Experience
Essential criteria- • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy
- • Experience in stock control
- • Computer literate and experience using Microsoft packages and pharmacy stock control systems
- • Ability to prioritise task and workloads
- • Experience in leading/ supervision a team
Knowledge
Essential criteria- • Understanding of stock control processes
- • Understanding of Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
- • Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, Manual Handling and COSHH
- Understanding of hospital pharmacy procurement
Skills
Essential criteria- • Good team worker
