Mechanical Design Engineer
Excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering company based in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan.
Position Type: PermanentHours: Full time, 36 ½ hours. 08:00-16:30 Mon-Thurs, 08:00-12:30 Fridays.
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum depending on experience.

A great role is on offer for experienced candidates seeking a long term and stable position within a well-established company specialising predominantly in the design and manufacture of bespoke packaging solutions, automotive logistics and lineside material handling equipment, metal pallets / stillages and moulded polyurethane dunnage systems for a range of high profile OEM manufacturers within the automotive and building construction products industries.
Responsibilities:
Designing bespoke vehicle component packaging solutions from customer supplied 3D component models and general design remits and manufacturing standards whilst ensuring that designs are fit for purpose, cost effective, and designed for manufacture.
Preparation of 3D models for review.
Preparation of PowerPoint concept proposals.
Preparation and release of 2D manufacturing drawings and bills of materials
Leading engagement with customers at all times throughout the design process by electronic means, Teams Meetings, and site visits from time to time as required.
The successful fulfilment of allocated design projects from inception through to final production delivery
Supporting the sales channel in the process of winning work
Contributing to the further development of the design function
Requirements:
HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar qualification with at least 3 years’ post graduate experience working as a Design Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
Proficient in the use of SolidWorks with particular emphasis on the design of mechanical components, steel fabrications, sheet metal, CNC Laser cut parts and pressings. Polyurethane cast mould tooling knowledge preferred but not essential.
Knowledge of Epicor ERP systems for inputting bills of materials advantageous but not essential.
Knowledge of 3D printing advantageous but not essential.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Existing right to work in the UK is a prerequisite.
