Communications Officer (Exhibitions and Programming)

Deliver the Communications strategy for IWM’s public programming, including temporary exhibitions, public events and learning activity, primarily at IWM London and IWM North.

Work closely with IWM’s marketing and digital engagement teams to ensure integrated and well- coordinated communications, marketing and digital campaigns for exhibitions and programming activity.

Your duties will include:

  • Support the Communications Manager (Exhibitions and Programming) with developing and delivering effective and dynamic communications campaigns to promote IWM’s temporary exhibitions and public programming, including events and learning
  • Ensure communications plans reach IWM’s core target and developmental audiences in an engaging and effective way.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with the media – print, broadcast, online and digital
  • Deliver press launches/views for IWM’s exhibitions and programming.
  • Supporting with the delivery of IWM’s annual programme announcement, including event, media sell-in.
  • Map out approaches to a range of press contacts for each campaign (temporary exhibitions, public programming and the IWM Institute), provide all necessary information; pitch possible stories/angles; encourage and secure high profile national and international press coverage, negotiate exclusive features and work with Marketing and Digital Engagement teams to develop partnership opportunities.
  • Secure broadcast coverage for communications campaigns and oversee TV/radio/film crews, as
  • Deliver photo calls, including sell in and onsite management of photographers.
  • Identify opportunities to develop online media coverage for communications campaigns and engage digital media journalists
  • Planning and delivering communications campaigns for IWM Publications in connection with temporary exhibitions and programming.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Write press information (releases, factsheets and quotes) and briefing documents for internal
  • Support IWM’s key initiatives for its programming by providing high quality Communications advice and implementing appropriate
  • Identify media stories and sell these in using efficient PR
  • Cultivate strong and supportive media contacts for temporary exhibitions and public programming and manage contacts
  • Monitor and report on media coverage and Communications campaigns
  • Act as a representative for IWM at external events and groups as and when required.
  • Deputise for the Communications Manager (Exhibitions and Programming) as
  • Support IWM’s Communications Managers at press launches, openings and events as and when required.
  • Work closely with the Communications Officer (Corporate) and Communications Officer (Commercial) to ensure best practice for IWM’s communications campaigns and a well- coordinated approach.
