We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Junior Sister/Junior Charge nurses to work within the Emergency Department (ED). We are looking for individuals with extensive ED experience, a positive attitude and excellent communication skills.

They will be responsible for the management and development of a dedicated team of nurses, and the running of the department on a shift to shift basis under the supervision of a supportive network of senior nurses.

We have recently been granted an uplift of staffing and are looking for experienced, supportive, passionate staff to join in leading our ED.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Junior Sister/junior Charge nurses to work within the Emergency Department (ED). We are looking for individuals with ED experience and specific skills, a positive and supportive attitude, and passion for high quality care.

They will be responsible for leading in resus, fit stop and majors. Supporting the band 7 to facilitate appraisals, supervision and support of staff in their team. With opportunities to facilitate bespoke in house training.

The department is a Trauma Unit operating under the Central England Trauma Network. It has undergone a development for a 9 bedded Resuscitation Suite with two trauma bays and a Fit area set aside for ambulance arrivals. In addition, the ED has a dedicated Emergency Nurse Practitioner led Minor Injuries Unit.

There is also a dedicated Paediatric Emergency department adjacent to the Adult ED.

ED is supported by 2 matrons, 2 nurse managers and a Practice Educator bespoke to the department. We are positive about providing all nurses with the appropriate support and structured individualised career pathway. Training opportunities including ALS/EPLS/ATNC as well as ED specific in house courses are run regularly and are widely available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To assist in the day to day running of the Emergency Department, ensuring the highest possible quality of care is delivered to the patients, relatives and carers who attend. To assist in the development of the service and management of the nursing team under the support of a team Sister/Charge Nurse.

To provide the nursing assessment, care and treatment to all the patients who present to the Emergency Department at Northampton General hospital.

To manage the region of the department they work in i.e. FIT Stop, majors, COA or resuscitation and to act as co-ordinator as necessary.

Supporting Clinical Excellence

Undertake rapid assessment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED).

Provide support to other clinical colleagues to ensure the safe, effective and efficient care of patients.

Liaise with the onsite GP, ED Consultants, ED Doctors, ED Nurses and MDT to ensure safe, efficient patient care.

Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care decisions, delivered in a timely manner.

Supply and administer medicines in line with Patient Group Directives and within scope of practice.

Ensure complete and accurate documentation of each and every patient contact.

  • Post registration ED experience.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of current developments in Emergency Care and the National Health service

Education, Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC qualification
  • Holder of Valid ALS and Trauma Course
  • Signed off scope of practice for suturing and plastering
  • Practice Supervisor and Assessor course
  • PILS/ EPLS
  • Signed off scope of practice for Triage

  • Leadership Course
