We are seeking a part time Biomedical Support Worker to join our team.
You will be required to receive patients’ samples from within and outside of the hospital, prioritise them appropriately and process them through to the analysis areas. You will also be required to answer the results line phone and field queries from other healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job- Work in a safe manner and in accordance with trust Health and Safety Policies.
- Follow all policies and procedures, seeking advice where appropriate from senior staff.
- Provision of printed test results and general enquires service via telephone.
- Use of the laboratory computer including accurate inputting of test request information into the Pathology computer system.
- Participation in any staff rotations operating within the Directorate.
- To provide guidance and training to members of staff as appropriate.
- Safe receipt and handling of laboratory specimens.
- Verification of appropriate sample types and matching of samples with request forms.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Bar coding and distribution of samples to appropriate laboratory staff.
- To operate a laboratory centrifuge for pre-testing sample preparation
- To undertake simple laboratory duties under the supervision of Biomedical Scientists.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Basic English & maths (GCSE or equivalent)
- Good written and verbal skills
- Qualification in IT/Keyboard (NVQ 2 level or equivalent )
Experience
Essential criteria- Previous experience of working in a high throughput environment
- Previous experience of working in a laboratory
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Good analytical reasoning (verbal and numerical)
- Strong communication skills
- Able to prioritise own workload and manage time effectively
- Acts collaboratively
