Deputy Data Protection Officer
The DWP Data Protection Officer is responsible for monitoring overall compliance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. The DWP DPO Function is made up of four teams, each managed by a Deputy DPO (DDPO).
The main roles of the DPO Team are:To support the Department with advice on its obligations under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018/Freedom of Information ActTo independently monitor the Department’s compliance with those obligations and raise issues, risks and concernsTo act as the first point of contact for DWP’s customers and employees for Data Protection (DP) mattersManage a central Freedom of Information (FoI) Team to support DWP to meet its legal FoI obligationsTo be the point of contact between DWP and the Information Commissioner’s Office in relation to DP/FoI mattersTo provide advice and guidance to ensure DWP’s adherence to the Public Records ActDevelopment and maintenance of policies and procedures to support DWP in managing its information in line with agreed retention policiesAs part of the DPO Team Senior Leadership Team to provide leadership and support to the wider Security and Data Protection Directorate and other SLT colleagues to ensure integration between teams
The post holders will play a key role in influencing and driving forward a variety of activities to support data protection, information management and information rights in DWP.
The main responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure needs are identified.
- Leading a team to achieve its team objectives.
- Building a culture of continuous improvement.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to the business on data protection, information management and information rights.
