We are looking for an enthusiastic, capable person to join the pharmacy homecare team based at Aintree Hospital. We welcome applications from candidates meeting the essential criteria for this position. You must be organised, flexible, have an eye for detail and have excellent communication skills.

The homecare team manages prescriptions for specialist medicines from 25 different teams in Liverpool University Hospitals. We can offer full training in this specialist area of pharmacy.

Based at Aintree hospital the homecare team manage prescriptions for specialist medicines from clinical teams based at all sites at LUHFT and the Walton Centre.

The homecare team process invoices received from homecare providers ensuring that accurate records are kept and payments are made through the hospital finance team to the homecare providers.

The homecare team answer queries received from patients, clinical teams and homecare providers helping to ensure that medicines supplied by homecare delivery are safe, effective and that the patient is supplied with them as requested by their specialist.

  1. Processing homecare prescriptions
  2. 1 Ensure that patient and homecare prescription details are accurately recorded on the homecare database.
  3. 2 Create purchase orders for the homecare prescription using the pharmacy stock control system. Ensure that the order number is recorded on the homecare database and the prescription.
  4. 3 Identify and highlight potential problems with homecare prescriptions and seek clarification from the senior pharmacy homecare technician or homecare pharmacist if necessary.
  5. 4 Scan completed prescriptions and file accurately to ensure a record of prescriptions sent by LUHFT to homecare providers is kept.
  6. 5 Accurately send homecare prescriptions to homecare providers using appropriate secure methods.
  7. Invoicing of pharmaceutical products
  8. 1 Check all homecare invoices received for accuracy using the purchase order and other identifiers and investigate any query regarding invoice prices and quantities with the supplier before processing. This is to ensure the correct data is input into the pharmacy stock control computer system.
  9. 2 Promptly and accurately process invoices using the relevant programs on the pharmacy stock control computer system and send onto the finance department for payment. This is to ensure compliance with the Public Sector Payments Policy.
  10. 3 Reconcile supplier statements to identify outstanding invoices and maintain a system for ensuring that queries on invoices are resolved as quickly as possible to ensure timely and accurate payment. This may involve contacting suppliers to resolve discrepancies.
  11. 4 Record reasons for the delay in processing any invoices so that justification for a delay in payment is available.
  12. 5 Liaise with homecare providers regarding enquiries concerning the payment of invoices.
  13. 6 Liaise with homecare pharmacy staff regarding invoice discrepancies to ensure that the price information on the pharmacy stock control computer system is kept accurate.
  14. 7 File all records relating to invoice processing and ensure the correct destruction when appropriate as per departmental and Trust procedures.
  15. 8 Enter contract changes and amendments as required by the Senior Homecare
Technician or Homecare pharmacist.
  1. 9 Act as a point of contact for the Trust finance team to help resolve issues highlighted on financial statements from homecare providers.
  2. Query handling
  3. 1 Receive queries from patients determining the nature of the query and reporting appropriate information back to the patient when necessary and able to. If the query cannot be answered in the homecare team understand the best person or team to direct the query to and relay the query to them in the most appropriate way.
  4. 2 Receive queries from clinical teams in the Trust reporting information to them. If the reply to the query will not completely answer the query, information that is held by the homecare team should be collated and supplied to help the clinical team resolve the query.
  5. 3 Receive queries from homecare providers, interpreting the nature of the query, who has been included in the query and who is best placed to deliver an accurate, timely reply to the query. If a query cannot be fully answered by the homecare team, information that is held by the homecare team that could help answer the query should be provided to the best placed person or team to answer the query to assist in handling the query. If queries are of a clinical nature ensure that the most appropriate person or team are included in the query, if they are not included the query should be forwarded to that person or team.
  6. 3 Receive queries from the Trust Finance team, providing required information to them when possible.
  7. Prescription management
  8. 1 Receive prescription request emails from homecare providers, assess the list using appropriate resources kept by the homecare team and produce a final list of required prescriptions for the clinical teams.
  9. General
  10. 1 Undertake such reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
  11. 2 The post holder will be expected to adapt to changed that may occur, which may affect the current practices within the Pharmacy Department, such as the introduction of new equipment, procedures, policies and hours of working.
  12. 3 Work across site where required.
  13. 4 Ensure that total confidentiality throughout the Trust is always upheld.
