Clinical Ensure a high standard of care for all patients with a diagnosis of skin cancer, providing a high standard of psychosocial support for the patient and their family/carers during and after any treatment. Act as an effective key worker for all patients and their families, providing advice, support and signposting when necessary.
Develop through completion of relevant post grad modules advanced clinical assessment skills in nurse led clinics to autonomously manage patients with a skin cancer diagnosis to ensure that optimum physical and psychological care needs are met.
Develop nurse led clinics working in parallel with multidisciplinary team members. Ensure patients holistic needs are taken into consideration in the decision making process utilising the relevant tools and skills Utilise highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
Attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, and represent the MDT as required at local/regional business meetings and the West Midlands Expert Advisory Group meetings. Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
Undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and defined expanded clinical roles. Responsible for training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.

Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. breaking bad news or following an unexpected event Undertake and complete (if appropriate) the relevant surgical training to preform nurse led surgical procedures Attend the relevant chemotherapy training course to be deemed competent to support and educate the oncology patients within the servic To undertake delegated consent training as part of nurse-led consent clinics To undertake face to face suspected skin cancer clinics under the supervision of a consultant dermatologist Leadership/management Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct.

Will contribute towards corporate objectives, values, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of the patients care is evident. A knowledgeable team leader, supporting staff, service and policy development within a defined area/speciality and attending patient safety meeting as required.
To undertake relevant managerial course to be able to help manage the skin cancer nurse team i.e. appraisals, absences and e rostering. Assist with the cancer quality assurance process, including document preparation. Part lead with data collection for cancer registration liaising with the cancer services team as required.
A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice. Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership, ensuring effective communication between all services.
Link with the Macmillan Lead cancer nurse and other cancer CNSs/AHPs with the Trust Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.

Education, teaching, audit and research Evaluate the results of the local and national cancer surveys, and ensure that appropriate action plans are developed Participation in clinical audit Assess patient and family educational needs in relation to surgical and oncological treatments that may be required, identifying and utilising appropriate resources Develop new skills in response to emerging knowledge and techniques Provide specialist education and training to other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with a skin cancer Develop the skin cancer nursing team through mentorship, education and coaching For further details please see the attached job description.
