Job overview

Band 3 Ward Housekeeper

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic housekeeper to join our Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at University College Hospital.

We would like to recruit a ward housekeeper who is willing to be part of our team and who takes pride in their work. As a multi-disciplinary team, we all work to the trust values and the same would be expected of you. You will be responsible for the daily upkeep of the ward, for maintaining safe and appropriate stock levels and for ordering equipment.
We would expect a good working relationship between the housekeeper and nursing team to ensure smooth working for everyone. You will also be responsible for cleanliness of the ward, for participating in weekly walk rounds and for escalating problems to the nurse in charge.

You may also be asked to cross cover for other housekeepers within the division.

Main duties of the job

Our unit is committed to the care of young people going through a difficult time in their lives; we work very closely with the Teenage Cancer Trust ensuring we treat the young person and not just the cancer. The unit has a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, which we would welcome you in to.

UCLH was the first hospital in the UK to develop a teenage cancer unit in 1990 and remain the biggest inpatient unit in Europe. Since then, the TYA service has grown in size, activity and complexity and enjoys international recognition. The UCLH TYA primary treatment centre provides world class cancer care in state-of-the-art age appropriate facilities, with the holistic needs of every patient at the forefront of all aspects of care, supported by an expert and extensive multidisciplinary team.

We are also the leading centre for adolescent bone marrow transplantation.
