Specialist Grade Psychiatrist – Older Adult Psychiatry, Barrow in Furness (10 PAs)

We are seeking to recruit a substantive Specialist Grade General Adult Psychiatrist to work with the Older Adult Mental Health Services in Barrow in Furness. The post is full time and you will be based at Furness General Hospital, in Barrow in Furness.

If the successful candidate has AC status, there will be an expectation to join the senior doctor On Call rota, for which additional remuneration is payable.

Main duties of the job

The well-established CMHT is based at Dane Garth in Furness General hospital. This is a varied role involving community clinics, home visits, care home liaison and a MAS clinic. FGH is a large district general hospital with around 268 beds, a full range of specialities and an accident and emergency department.

The Dane Garth unit has established resident doctor posts including FY1s, FY2s a CT and GPSTs. This post holder would have the support of a resident doctor, along with a SAS Doctor. There is an active monthly peer group meeting of medical colleagues within the Cumbria locality too.

The post holder will work with a multidisciplinary team including nurse consultant, Psychologist, clinical leads, community mental health nurses, occupational therapy HCA and trainee advanced clinical practitioner.

Applicants should hold full GMC registration and have a minimum of 6 years’ experience in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades.

It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration and Licence to Practise
  • Section 12 approved
  • AC status or within 6 months

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 12 years experience as doctor since primary medical degree
  • At least 6 years experience at SAS level (or equivalent) in adult psychiatry
  • Knowledge, skills and experience relevant to this role
