Hostel Worker - Full time
Job overview
Bevin Court is a busy hostel for 66 homeless men aged 18 years and over. We aim to support people who have become homeless into gaining the skills needed to re-establish themselves in the community.
We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are willing to go that extra mile to help clients at our hostel get the most out of life.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include:
- Helping to undertake assessments for admission
- Acting as a key worker for a small number of clients
- Participating in the “move on” process
- Helping in the day to day running of the hostel.
The Candidate:
- You will have a caring, confident and well organised personality with the ability to adapt to situations quickly as every day is different.
- Its desirable (not essential) that you have some experience of working in a Support or Housing environment, ideally with the homeless, and an understanding of the needs of people with complex support issues would be desirable but is not essential. More important is a respectful attitude and the ability to relate to others in a non-judgemental way.
- Its desirable (not essential) that you have some experience of working with clients whom have mental health or substance misuse issues
- A positive attitude to our client group
- An understanding of the some of the issues facing homeless people
- Flexibility in working various shift patterns
- Be able to work three 12.5 hour shifts a week (could be a mix of days & nights in the same week)
- An understanding of the challenges of the role.
- Proven track record of team work and working in a fast paced environment.
