Applications are invited for a post of Senior Neonatal Transport Fellows commencing February 2025 for a period of 12 months initially with the possibility of a an extension for a further 12 months. The successful applicant will have an exciting opportunity to work as the transport doctor for the CenTre neonatal transport team.

This experience should leave candidates well placed for a successful application to join a national training scheme.

CenTre Neonatal Transport team provides neonatal transport service for East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (EMODN) and Coventry. It is one of the busiest transport services in the country with about 1600 transports in a year with a provision of high-quality, safe intensive care during transport including active cooling and nitric oxide.

This service is hosted by the University hospitals of Leicester with neonatal teams from Leicester, Nottingham and Coventry. It is based in Castle Donnington.

Successful candidate will have junior doctor contract compliant full shift rota being part of neonatal transport team based in Castle Donnington. They would work along with transport nursing team and transport consultant for safe transport of neonates from one unit to another.

They will receive educational and clinical supervision and have opportunity to be involved in quality improvement projects and on the NICU in Nottingham.

Working for our organisation

NICU: Neonatal Intensive Care is provided across two sites at QMC and City Campuses. QMC NICU comprising of 11 intensive care cots and 6 special care cots, provides tertiary level intensive care for neonates of all gestations and is a centre for surgical care of neonates including ENT and Neurosurgery.

The City Hospital NICU has 12 intensive care and 12 special care cots. It provides tertiary level intensive care for neonates of all gestations. After completion of expansion, QMC campus would have 38 cots. The individuals in these posts will gain experience in the management of sick newborn infants receiving a full range of neonatal intensive care with training in mechanical ventilation including high frequency ventilation and use of nitric oxide; therapeutic hypothermia and postoperative care.

Clinical Skills/Experience

  • At least 6 months of experience as a middle grade in a tertiary nicu.
  • At least 12 months overall tertiary neonatal experience
  • NLS Provider
Desirable criteria
  • Previous neonatal or paediatric transport experience

Personal Skills/Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
  • Able to supervise junior staff effectively

Practical Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus, Castle Donington and Queen’s Medical Centre campus
  • Evidence of Level 3 Safeguarding Children training

  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
