We are looking for an experienced midwife with a passion for intrapartum care, to provide inspirational leadership and management for our central delivery suite in James Cook University Hospital. The individual must have excellent organisational and leadership skills, a strong commitment to midwifery practice and safety.

The post holder will work in association with the services multi-disciplinary team, allied health professions, anaesthetic, surgical, emergency care and other associated teams in line with patient safety and quality agenda.

The post holder will promote the positive image of the clinical area and the Trust by being a role model, having a clear vision and using direct clinical leadership to ensure an excellent patient experience and a ward that promotes both clinical and operational excellence.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold responsibility for the central delivery suite team with support from the Band 8A Matron, Deputy Head of Midwifery and Head of Midwifery. The post holder will ensure they lead and manage the delivery suite to ensure safe, high quality, evidence based midwifery care is delivered to patients whilst respecting and involving families and carers as partners in care.

The post holder in conjunction with the senior management team will manage the budget for the ward to ensure the best use of resources.

They will act as a champion for professional accountability and standards, ensuring that professional practices are in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and Trust Policy.

There is an expectation to work clinically/operationally as required.

qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Midwifery degree/Midwifery qualification to diploma level and preceptorship plus further study and specialist experience
  • Currently registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Masters in related subject or worked at master’s level (level 7)
Desirable criteria
  • Examination of the new-born.
  • Management qualification and/or experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist clinical knowledge of midwifery
  • A understanding of the NHS current legislation and national strategy in relation to midwifery

  • Coordination of staffing and resources to meet service need
  • Delivery and organisation of training, learning and development.

  • Strong Communication skills including clarity of communication both verbal and written, excellent listening skills, feedback.
