Working within the Clinical Education Team, the post holder will provide specialist AV and Simulation skills contributing towards the department’s educational activities within Simulation, Clinical Skills and Resuscitation.

Main duties of the job

Post holders will support the Clinical Leads & Educators to deliver a high quality education service across the Trust through the application of their specialist knowledge and skills, offering assistance and advice within their scope of practise to staff both internal and external to the department whilst being overseen by the Specialist Technician Team Leader.

The post holder will work within the Clinical Skills, Resuscitation, Simulation and Surgical Simulation services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

v Support the education management team in ensuring the smooth running of courses across educational pathway.

v To present a positive image of education to all users and promoting it as a first class venue for learning and education, identifying and implementing service improvements in conjunction with the education senior management team.

v Support the Clinical Education Department by setting up for courses, conferences and meetings that are held across the Trusts education function.

v Provide support to the Rotational Technicians with stock management, control and ordering to ensure that stock levels across the department remain adequate.

v Take a leadership role in the administration of the Trust-wide room booking system across the educational pathway, ensuring that rooms are fit for purpose and ready for use, under the guidance of the Specialist Technician Team Leader.

v Liaise with different departments across the organisation as applicable to understand their AV requirements, providing guidance and assistance to support educational services.

v Provide first line technical expertise for computer based multimedia systems and their components.

v In conjunction with the Rotational Technicians, ensure that AV / Simulation kit / part task trainers are fit for purpose and in full working order, providing maintenance where required. Ensure reporting of any major faults to the Specialist Technician Team Leader as applicable.

v Ensure classrooms are ready for educational delivery, with particular focus on ensuring that both high fidelity Simulation equipment & bespoke audio-visual equipment is functional ready to use.

v Assist with the transfer of equipment across the department / wider organisation including pre-course set up where required.

v Assist leaners or patients at large educational events such as ALS / LOCAS giving directions, escorting across the site or any other appropriate task.

v On a daily basis, provide leadership for all technical elements of all courses, ensuring safe and efficient use of range of equipment and supplies including low, medium and high fidelity full body patient simulators, IT and audio visual equipment.

v Have a full working knowledge of the role of a Simulation Technician including prepare equipment for training such as the application of moulage to give the illusion of injury and performing the role of the ‘controller’ during Simulated teaching scenarios.

v The post holder should be able to perform all associated roles and responsibilities of the Rotational Technicians to ensure good resilience and mentorship within the department.

v Have a good knowledge of the Health and safety legislation regarding AV equipment, providing advice on how the Trust can abide by this.

v Through training, knowledge and experience provide video creation / editing functions as required by Clinical Education to ensure high quality clinical videos can supplement new / existing education.

v Support the organisation to develop and deliver conference facilities

v Assist the Specialist Technician Team Leader with the development and upkeep of the department’s intranet / social pages.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent qualifications to include English and Mathematics at Grade C or above
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of having undertaken continuous professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of having worked within an educational / NHS environment
  • Experience of working with mannequins or part task trainers within an educational setting
  • Experience of Simulation / AV Technical components and their application within Education
  • Experience of leadership and creating a positive team culture
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of stock taking / managing replenishment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of video creation / editing or willingness to work towards
