General Practice Nurse
Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care To deliver a high standard of patient care using specialist practice Nurse skills Attend and contribute to relevant internal and external meetings as required including practice clinical meetings, nurse team meetings and gold standard framework meetings Maintain a personal progress and training plan to keep up-to date with current thinking and developments as well as identifying own training deficiencies and attending suitable courses as appropriate Promote evidence based practice through use of the latest research based guidelines Monitor the effectiveness of their own clinical practice through quality assurance strategies such as the use of peer audit and review Maintain professional registration Work within the latest NMC Code of Professional Conduct Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
Record accurate consultation data in patients records in accordance with NMC guidance and other standards Keep up to date with pertinent health policy and work with the practice team to consider the impact and strategies for implementation Work collaboratively with colleagues both internally and externally Use technology and appropriate software packages as an aid to the planning, implementation and monitoring of care, presenting and communicating information Act as a role model in the observance of equality and diversity good practice Consulting for minor health problems in Practice Nurse Minor Illness Surgeries and obtaining prescriptions where necessary.
The On Call Team will always be available for advice and will see patients if necessary Administer appropriate vaccines to adults and children according to up to date Department of Health guidelines including vaccinations for foreign travel Family Planning advice and help including checking of caps and IUCDs Monitoring and care of post menopausal women including those taking HRT Cervical cytology Giving health promotion advice to patients during consultations as appropriate Wound care / ulcer care Removal of Sutures New Patient Medicals Urinalysis ECG recording Blood Pressure measurements Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry Venepuncture Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician Assisting with minor surgery and coil fittings Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Maintaining stocks of medicines, drugs, vaccines, dressings and equipment and re-ordering as necessary Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post (this list is not exhaustive and can be subject to change).
