DT Technician

1. 5 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks per year)

The successful applicant will liaise with members of the Design and Technology department to prepare and organise materials and equipment for classroom use, assisting during lessons as required. The post holder will also liaise with contractors, ensuring any repair work is carried out to specification as and when required.Key responsibilities of the role includeLessonsPreparation of equipment and materials for lessons, both for demonstration and class useChecking materials and equipment for quantity and damage before and after use by a classConstruction and repair of teaching aidsAssist staff with class practical workUse CAD, CAM and CNC machinery (with suitable training) to help support students’ project workRooms and StockMaintenance of workshops to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environmentClean down work room at the end of each day and ensure all materials are stored securely awayMaintain appropriate levels of consumable items in workshopsMaintain inventory of materials and equipment and associated stocktaking dutiesPlace stock orders and check deliveriesHealth and SafetyInform staff of potential problems with equipment and other safety mattersEnsure flammable liquids and dangerous substances are confined to safe working areas of the workshop and away from all heatAdhere to current Health & Safety requirementsEquipmentTool and machine maintenanceReplace belts, sharpen edges, machine adjustment and oiling etcCleaning of equipmentProvide emergency technical assistance when there is either a breakdown of equipment, or a serious breakdown in general servicingMonitor equipment on loan to other departmentsReasonable repair and maintenance of equipment across departmentOrganisation of repairs or specific maintenanceOtherEnd of day securityPhotocopying and general support to the department as neededOther reasonable tasks that may be requested by the Head of Department from time to timeThe ideal candidate will have experience of working within a school environment, however this is not essential.In return, we can offer:Excellent support from an experienced, committed and welcoming subject specialists Fantastic students who are well behaved and want to learnA wellbeing day per academic year and an active Staff Wellbeing Committee with numerous enrichment activities on offerA full programme of trips and visits giving you the chance to share in making positive memories with studentsAccess to an Employee Assistance ProgrammeAccess to education-specific discount schemesWe pride ourselves on our ethos and culture which promotes positive relationships and behaviour.
