About us….

Who we are:

The North London Forensic Service (NLFS) provides comprehensive mental health rehabilitation to a mainly male adult population within medium and low security for service users who present with complex mental health needs and a forensic / offending history.

What we do:

The Inpatient OT’s manage a defined caseload on a forensic ward, whilst working in conjunction with the OT Community Team to support those on the discharge pathway and moving into the community. Both work alongside a robust multi-disciplinary team.

Team working is an essential part of this role, not only on the wards, but when supporting service users in accessing the community as part of their recovery.

The OT role focusses on functional daily living skills, establishing structured routines, which may include education and / or work and managing specific mental health and risk issues. The OT process includes the assessment, goal and intervention planning and ongoing review of occupational needs.

All interventions, either 1:1 or groups are devised around the needs of individuals and aim to support service users on their journey of recovery, quality of life, and community integration. We have a robust vocational programme on site and continuing to establish community pathways to refer service users into.

Why work for us:

We are a large, experienced and supportive Occupational Therapy Department with lots of opportunities for learning and career development. To support all members of our team, we offer:

  • Robust and supportive induction
  • Weekly OT department meetings: these include business meetings, presentations, case discussions, peer support, CPD opportunity.
  • Band 5 / 6 peer support group meeting each month.
  • Access to CPD, e.g. learning events such as academic seminars.
  • We are a service that is exploring VdTMoCA and open to new ideas.
  • Trauma Informed Service.
  • Robust supervision - both 1:1 and lots of informal supervision opportunities.
  • Friendly and suportive department.
  • Work alongside a Band 4 Technical Instructors on the wards.
