Assistant Houseparent (live-in)

The Role

We are seeking a warm, committed and enthusiastic Assistant Houseparent (Live‑In) to join the boarding team at our independent school in Scotland. This is a residential role and forms a vital part of the school’s pastoral provision, supporting pupils in a welcoming, structured and nurturing boarding environment.

Working closely with the Houseparent, you will help provide a safe, caring and well‑organised home‑from‑home, supporting pupils’ wellbeing, routines and personal development throughout the school week and at designated weekends.

• Support the daily operation of the boarding house, including morning, evening and bedtime routines
• Live on site and be available to pupils as a responsible and approachable adult
• Provide high‑quality pastoral care and support pupils’ emotional and social wellbeing
• Supervise pupils during free time, meals, study periods and activities
• Assist with behaviour management in line with school policies
• Help maintain a calm, positive and inclusive boarding environment
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and senior boarding staff
• Keep appropriate records and follow safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Assist with weekend duties and boarding activities on a rota basis

The successful candidate will:

• Have a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people
• Be patient, resilient and able to build positive, professional relationships
• Enjoy working as part of a close residential team
• Be well organised with strong communication skills
• Be flexible and comfortable with the demands of a live‑in role
• Have experience working with young people (education, care, youth or residential settings)

• Relevant childcare, education or pastoral qualifications are advantageous
• Registration with SSSC or the willingness to work towards it
• Appointment is subject to PVG Scheme membership and satisfactory references
• All staff are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection
