Job DescriptionGlasgow City Council's Young Asylum Seekers team provides a social work service to all unaccompanied young people who arrive in Glasgow.

Young people arrive on an unplanned basis and require immediate assessment of need and suitable accommodation sourced. They are often trafficked into the UK and may experience trauma and poor mental health as a result. Young people arrive with limited English and a considerable amount of work is carried out via online translation and interpreters.

Young people also provided with support to claim asylum.

The post involves assessing and supporting young people on arrival, establishing them in appropriate accommodation addressing their immediate practical needs. Thereafter, young people are supported in relation to continuing care and aftercare.
The post holder will also undertake age assessments where doubts exist about the age of young people presenting for support (appropriate training will be provided for this). Unaccompanied asylum seekers obtain immediate looked after status and require care planning under LAAC procedures.

They are entitled to continuing and after care support and the successful candidate will undertake all the associated care planning tasks.
