Job overview
A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and committed qualified mental health nurse to work in the Northumberland Psychiatric liaison team for older adults.
We are based at Wansbeck hospital in Ashington, Northumbria specialist emergency care hospital in Cramlington and various other sites within the footfall of Northumberland.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and confident individual to join our established team who provide mental health assessments, liaison interventions and informal/formal education to the acute general hospital staff.
The successful candidate will be based at Wansbeck hospital but will be expected to travel to all the community hospitals within the acute hospital footfall and includes NSECH and community hospitals within Northumberland.
We operate a 7 day a week service. Staff have advised this enhances their wellbeing in terms of increased periods of time away from the work environment.
Main duties of the job
Liaison psychiatry provide mental health assessments including risk assessments and safety planning following a referral from the emergency department or wards/departments throughout Northumbria healthcare inpatient services.
MDT working within our ow team and alongside the acute trust
Ongoing liaison intervention's with patients, carers, family and other health and social care staff.

We have a fantastic Clinical Reference Group for all CNTW Liaison Teams with bi weekly teaching, dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist for the older adult’s pathway, Nurse consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialist and supportive Clinical Leadership team.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The service is 7 days a week with a Rota covering weekends at NSECH, working 8-6 shifts:
Responding to referral within the national waiting times targets
Formulation of mental health assessments
Biopsychosocial risk assessments
Ongoing liaison interventions.

Person specification
Education and Qualification
Essential criteria- Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
- Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post
- Proven track record of post registration clinical experience
- Mentor Training.
- Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
- Post Registration Qualifications in Psychological Interventions
- Experience of working within a community team.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria- Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
- 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
- Understanding of difficult to manage/challenging behaviours.
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria- Proven ability to complete comprehensive assessment of complex mental health needs
- Risk Assessment Skill & Management
- Identify treatment options as per NICE Guidelines
- High standard of written and verbal communication
- Ability to work under pressure
- Clinical Leadership
- Delegation skills
