Financial Accountant
Location: Cardiff/Hybrid
Daily rate: £400 per day
Job Summary:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled IFRS Financial Accountant to join the finance team of a leading insurance company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial reports in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and insurance-specific regulations.You will ensure the accuracy of the company's financial records, compliance with industry regulations, and provide key support during audits and financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare statutory financial statements for the insurance entity in compliance with IFRS, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide technical guidance on IFRS accounting treatments, especially those related to insurance contracts (IFRS 17).
- Collaborate with actuarial teams to ensure accurate recording of insurance provisions, reserves, and premium revenues.
- Lead the implementation of new IFRS standards, across the finance department.
- Manage the financial reporting process for the insurance business, ensuring alignment with group policies and industry-specific regulations.
- Coordinate the annual audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors, and address audit queries.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments are completed in line with IFRS.
- Analyse financial data to provide insights and recommendations to senior management for decision-making.
- Work closely with tax and compliance teams to ensure accurate and timely submission of tax returns and regulatory reports.
- Assist in the preparation of internal management reports, including variance analysis and financial forecasts.
- Participate in process improvements, automation initiatives, and system upgrades within the finance team.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) with strong knowledge of IFRS.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial reporting, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Strong experience in external audit or financial accounting in the insurance sector is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
