About the Role:

Our client, a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Norwich, is seeking a committed and experienced Head of SEU – Specialist Education Unit to lead a small team providing targeted support for pupils with additional needs. This is a pivotal leadership role that requires a strong understanding of SEND, outstanding communication skills, and a passion for ensuring every child can achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the provision within the Specialist Education Unit (SEU), ensuring high-quality, individualised support for pupils with SEND.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, senior leadership team, external professionals, and families to create inclusive support plans.
  • Line manage SEU staff, including learning support assistants and intervention specialists.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on the progress and wellbeing of pupils within the unit.
  • Develop strategies to support emotional regulation, behaviour, and communication in line with EHCPs and school policy.
  • Ensure safeguarding and wellbeing remain at the heart of all practice.
  • Contribute to wider school improvement through collaboration, staff training, and sharing best practice.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience working with children with SEND in an educational or specialist setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team.
  • Sound knowledge of EHCP processes, inclusive pedagogy, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with families and professionals.
  • Calm, empathetic, and solutions-focused attitude to behaviour and pastoral care.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or SEND (e.g. Level 3/4 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, HLTA, QTS, or equivalent).
