The Senior Analytics Engineer (CogStack/OMOP) is a crucial role within GSTT, working adjacent to the London SDE programme. You will be responsible for fronting a data and analytics service that is based on some of the deepest secondary care data in the NHS, including data extracted using technologies such as language AI for curating unstructured data, and ‘research-ready’ data that is in the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model.

You will also have the opportunity to develop analytics products, including dashboards and web apps, that sit on top of the diverse data assets in the Trust, that will support use-cases for clinical pathways and Real-World Data.

The role must have a background as a practising clinician, in order to act as a subject matter expert for projects that require understanding of biomedical research concepts, healthcare terms and narratives in relation to clinical ontologies, data generation in clinical pathways, and clinical research.

In this senior technical role, you will report to the AI Centre and GSTT Head of Data Science, and you will co-design the technical roadmap and deliverables in line with wider strategy for health data and data-driven products. Half of this role will be allocated to data discovery and extraction as a service, using data from CogStack, assisted by Language AI, and from the Trust OMOP structured database.

The other half of this role will be allocated to product development and improvement. This may include data engineering and improving underlying data infrastructure, as well as producing visualisations, analytics, and applications that can support individual projects, support the overall analytics pipeline, or which serve specific use-cases, and which can be scaled across multiple locations.

You will be responsible for supervising, coordinating, and upskilling more junior technical staff in GSTT and other NHS organisations.

The candidate must have experience with SQL and Python. Frontend (Javascript) and software development experience are highly desirable.

AI, Data & Digital Innovation function

The AI, Data & Digital Innovation team is made up of data science, technology and digital transformation experts, operating as part of the wider King Health partner’s (KHP) group – based in GSTT but working closely as a team with KCH and KCL.

The team regularly contributes to externally funded programmes – including development and implementation of data platforms and AI technologies. This includes the London Artificial Intelligence Centre for Value-Based Healthcare (London AI Centre): a consortium of NHS, academic and industry partners led by Guy’s & St Thomas’, King’s College London and KCH, in partnership with 10 NHS Trusts and 4 universities.

CogStack

CogStack is one of the most advanced healthcare Natural Language Artificial Intelligence platforms in the NHS, developed and owned by its founding Trusts, and trained and validated using NHS data. The CogStack platform is deployed across multiple NHS Trusts in the country and used for unstructured data search, extraction, and both analytics and clinical coding use-cases.
