An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, pro-active and enthusiastic Assistant Technical Officer to work in our busy and friendly Aseptic Unit within the Pharmacy Department to cover maternity leave

You will work as part of a dedicated team involved in the preparation and dispensing of aseptic products. You will perform duties such as organising and supervising processes within the aseptic unit such as; specialist cleaning, transfer disinfection, stock control, physical and environmental monitoring as well as dispensing and preparing sterile products.

You should be eager to learn, flexible, reliable, able to work accurately, follow detailed standard operating procedures and have good attention to detail. Hours of work will be discussed with weekdays operating between the hours of 7.30am and 5.20pm and a requirement to participate in the rota for the weekend and Bank Holiday service provision.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the aseptic team your responsibilities will include:

  • Aseptic manufacture and preparation processes in sterile conditions using specialist equipment.
  • Preparing documentation for aseptic processing
  • Dispensing of oral medication and IV products.
  • Performing stock management
  • Performing environmental monitoring in the aseptic unit
  • Dispensing TPN
  • Undertake specialised cleaning of the aseptic unit.
  • Supervision and training of other staff working in aseptic services, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery and observing good manufacturing practice.

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE (or Equivalent) in Maths and English grade C or above
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience underpinned by appropriate training or equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services

Skills & Experience

Essential criteria
  • IT literate, use of databases, Microsoft etc
  • Good team worker and also able to work on own initiative.
  • Previous experience working in a pharmacy aseptic unit and manufacturing chemotherap
  • Able to lead and undertake responsibility
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Has good dexterity and ability to work within standard operating procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as a dispenser
  • Experience of stock management and stock control systems

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to supervise and support senior members of the team
  • Friendly, supportive and able to motivate others.
